State of Decay 2 Base

State of Decay 2: The Best Bases in the Game

Here at Goblins & Ghouls, we love a few things above all else: zombies and base-building games. Thankfully, State of Decay 2 features both in spades, and you know we owe to ourselves and to you to cover the best bases in State of Decay 2, as we did for each map previously.

Surely by now, after all these years, you have a favorite map? We’d love to know which one in the comments beneath the article!

The Best Bases in State of Decay 2

As of this writing, there are a total of four maps for the campaign mode in State of Decay 2. You have the best bases in Providence Ridge, spacious bases in Drucker County, the classic bases in Meagher Valley, and authentic zombie survival bases in Cascade Hills. Each one boasts a handful of unique safe havens to choose from, growing in scale as your community does. But not all of them are equal. Some bases outright blow.

Loch and Keogh Self Storage on Cascade Hills

Seriously, who doesn’t want a base with a giant cartoon dinosaur reigning supreme overhead?

Loch and Keogh Self Storage, found in the north of Cascade Hills, offers up 14 slots, some of which include unique structures, such as an Elaborate Storage and Secret Distillery.

On top of the unique buildings included, you’ll receive access to two small outdoor plots, one large plot, three parking spots, and not one but two clearable abandoned lockers.

But it’s the included watchtower that has our attention. As you can see in the image above, the main office of the self-storage unit features a medieval-themed watchtower that your survivors will man to defend the premises.

Squelones Brewing Company on Meagher Valley

When it comes to Meagher Valley, most would choose Whitney Field. But personally, the Squelones Brewing Company offers up a spacious environment, with plenty of buildable slots, and a few unique included structures to help those who fancy themselves keen traders at the end of the world.

As someone who generally opts for a trader, I love the ability to craft high-quality alcohol items to sell to other enclaves on the map. It nets a large profit without much work on my end.

On the construction side of things, Squelones Brewing Company features two large outdoor plots, one of which you’ll need to clear, and five open small plots — three indoor and two outdoor. You could clear out some of the included buildings, but why would you?

Barricaded Strip Mall on Drucker County

Personally, I find Drucker County to be one of the more boring maps in the game, and its bases don’t usually shine through for me. But with the Barricaded Strip Mall, we have an outlier. This is, hands-down, one of the coolest base designs in the game.

In total, the strip mall features six stores, connected via a back corridor, and surrounded by fencing. In front of the storefronts, you’ll enjoy three large plots, one small plot, and your storage facility. Everything is right there for easy access.

If you want that ultimate survival feeling of living in the post-apocalypse, the Barricades Strip Mall has little, if any, competition.

Prescott Fire Station on Providence Ridge

Why did I choose Prescott Fire Station over, say, Lundegaard Lumber Mill? The latter features five large slots to build upon, which is huge! But the former is arguably one of the best bases on Providence Ridge. Here’s why.

When you first move down south on Providence Ridge, chances are you won’t have the influence or survivor count to move into the lumberyard. Even if you did, most will opt for the fire station first. Its positioning is ideal for clearing the southern and western portions of the map, plus it offers unique benefits.

Regarding those benefits, you have included food storage, a utility room offering power and water, an upgraded workshop under the stairs, a fighting gym to train your community members, and a scout tower on the second floor overlooking the street.

On top of the included buildings, the fire station allows for two small outdoor plots, two large outdoor plots, and four parking spaces. It’s a fun roleplay base or just pure survival greatness!
