Fallout 4 launched worldwide in 2015, and I still fondly remember the day I popped it into my PlayStation 4 for the first time. I had only just settled into an apartment after moving cross-country. I found immense comfort in the familiarity of wandering the wasteland, just like I did in Fallout 3 back in high school. Now I’m grown, with a family and full-time job, and here I am, eagerly awaiting the next entry. So, when will Fallout 5 come out?
What is the Fallout 5 Release Date?
Unfortunately, there is no concrete release date for Fallout 5, but rumors point toward at least 2030. That’s not a firm date, either. With the delay to Starfield, Bethesda Game Studios is likely a bit behind on The Elder Scrolls VI, which is said to launch sometime in or around 2026. I highly doubt that, though.
If The Elder Scrolls VI receives yet another delay, when will Fallout 5 come out? It’ll likely wind up delayed, too, pushed back as far as 2034. For context, I’ll be in my mid-40s by then. I’m sure many of you will find yourself in the same position.

Where is Fallout 5 Set?
Right now, there’s nothing but rumors to go off of for the Fallout 5 setting. Personally, I’ve heard a few, including:
- San Francisco
- New Orleans
- New York City
- Denver
- Chicago
The most likely is undoubtedly Chicago, though I do suspect Bethesda Game Studios and Xbox will both be keen to capitalize on the long-term popularity of Fallout: New Vegas. Therefore, a return to the West Coast seems highly likely, too.
Goblins & Ghouls built its site around open-world games like Fallout 4 and Fallout 76, and we’re eagerly awaiting the fifth mainline entry. When it launches, expect game guides in the hundreds!
