State of Decay 2: The Coolest Bases in the Game

Surely you have one or two favorite bases in State of Decay 2? Developer Undead Labs did a genuinely excellent job in designing many of the fan-favorite bases on maps such as Providence Ridge and Cascade Hills. But surely, of all the bases open to players, you have one favorite that stands out? I know I do!

Let’s jump right in and check out the coolest bases in State of Decay 2!

Bridge Fort – Cascade Hills

Sure, the Bridge Fort is relatively small compared to many other bases on the list, but it’s thematically appropriate for the game world and pretty damn cool, too.

A converted railway bridge with entrances on either side, the Bridge Fort doesn’t provide a ton of space for a bustling community. But its defensive position, creating natural chokepoints to manage hordes with ease, makes it a wonderous facility.

Despite its small size, Bridge Fort does feature twelve slots in total: 7 small outdoor, 4 small indoor, and 1 large slot. You have plenty of room to grow a mid-game base here!

Loch & Keogh Self Storage – Cascade Hills

It’s easy to see why Cascade Hills is a long-time favorite for many fans. The available bases are downright cool!

Here we have Loch & Keogh Self Storage—an end-game tier base with fourteen total facilities: 5 small outdoor, 8 small indoor, and a large slot. Ideally, this base design would include an additional large slot for added customization, but hey, you work with what you can get in the apocalypse.

The upside to Loch & Keogh, however, is in its existing facilities and boons. It has a pre-zombie apocalypse wall, and a fully-functional watchtower built into the base. I mean, seriously, if that isn’t one of the coolest watchtowers in the game, I don’t know what to tell you.

Barricaded Strip Mall – Drucker County

Barricaded Strip Mall State of Decay 2

If we’re talking about purely aesthetic, cool-looking bases, then the Barricaded Strip Mall in Drucker County tops the charts. Who doesn’t want to survive the zombie apocalypse in a fortified strip mall? It’s like something out of a George A. Romero film.

Even better is that the Barricaded Strip Mall is massive! It includes 16 total slots: 4 small outdoor, 9 small indoor, and 3 large slots. You have a few clearable facilities, like the liquor store and laundromat, but also a built-in Urgent Care and Tae-Kwon-Do Gym to utilize.

I have to say, of the many bases in State of Decay 2, this one feels most like a community to me. The communal space up front, the storefronts; it’s a ton of fun to build here.

Prescott Fire Station – Providence Ridge

Did you want to be a firefighter when you were young? Many kids did, for sure, but few lived out their dreams into adulthood. Now, in State of Decay 2, you can roleplay as a firefighter with the proper attire and the Prescott Fire Station in Providence Ridge!

This “ruined” firehouse is actually in fairly decent condition. Its watchtower stands tall and strong, the Firefighter Bunks and Firehouse Kitchen function as intended, with a little care, and you have plenty of room to build.

Speaking of building, the Prescott Fire Station includes 18 total slots: 7 small outdoor, 9 small indoor, and 2 large slots.

It’s a highly customizable, southernly-located base that affords a booming community peace of mind!

Farmland Compound – Trumbull Valley

Farmland Compound

I’ll be upfront here. The Farmland Compound in Trumbull Valley is one of my favorite maps in State of Decay 2. It’s centrally located, quite large, and offers plenty of customization in how you build up your available slots.

With a total of 16 facility slots, including 7 small outdoor, 5 small indoor, and 4 large slots, you have room to build how you want. Better yet, with the Refugee Clinic and Backyard BBQ Pit, your cooking and medicinal needs are taken care of from the get-go.

But it’s the design that genuinely attracts me each playthrough on Trumbull Valley. With a sizable farmhouse, small outlying sheds, and a sizable barn to call home, this is what surviving the apocalypse in style truly means!

There you have it! A few of the coolest bases in State of Decay 2. Do you have a favorite I didn’t mention here?
