As a pseudo-survival game, water and power go a long way toward guaranteeing your community’s happiness. But this is the end of the world, and, as such, finding functional electricity proves challenging. Here is how to get power in State of Decay 2!

How to Get Power in State of Decay 2

To get power in State of Decay 2, you must construct a facility or take control of an outpost, specifically a Power Outpost, for base-wide electricity. The most common ways to kickstart the lights include:

  • Construct a Generator or Solar Array
  • Build the Red Talon Workshop
  • Claim a Power Outpost
  • Secure the Wind Mills Landmark Outpost (Meagher Valley)
  • Install a Portable Generator or Bike Generator
  • Unlock the Amenities Boon

Once you’ve completed the takeover or installation, you should have power running to your entire base.

Do You Need Water and Power in State of Decay 2?

While your character does not need to eat or drink, having a stable water and power supply can provide valuable benefits. For instance, obtaining power will allow you to upgrade, build, and craft various facilities and items.

  • Armory (Craft Suppressors, Brakes, Chokes, Frag Grenades, Landmines)
  • Auto Shop (Craft Light, Medium, and Heavy Upgrade Kits)
  • Lounge (Watch Television, Host Movie Night, View Training Views)
  • Red Talon Crafting Station (Craft Fire Bombs, Remote Grenades, Sticky Grenades, Explosive Fuel Traps, Deployable Minefields, Deployable Pryo Minefields, Remote Rocket Pods, CLEO Ammo)
  • Workshop (Craft Shelving, Pallets, Secure Ammo Case, Small Fuel Tank, Minifridge, Signal Antenna, Handmade Choke, Handmade Brake, Handmade Suppressor, Recycle Materials, Fuel Bombs, Pipe Bombs)

This is just a small handful of what having power in your community provides. There are numerous facilities and actions that require electricity.
