State of Decay 2 Blood Plague

State of Decay 2: How to Deal With Blood Plague

Do your survivors suffer from Blood Plague? Listen, we’ve all been in your shoes. You’re playing as your favorite survivor, she’s doing well, and then a Plague Zombie stumbles out from a bathroom stall and bites you right on the neck. What not?

In the world of State of Decay 2, dealing with the Blood Plague can leave you heartbroken, frantic, and in a seriously bad mood when your beloved survivor bites the bullet. But, depending on difficulty level and your timeframe, it is entirely possible to salvage your community member!

What is the Blood Plague?

First off, what is this mysterious, red-laced virus plaguing the land?

The Blood Plague is a dangerous disease transmitted via Plague Zombies. It is spread via direct contact, like a bite or scratch, from the undead.

Thankfully, once infected, you can monitor the virus’ progression on the left side of the screen, just above the game’s radar. If your survivor endures consecutive attacks by the Plague Zombie/s, then the infection bar rapidly progresses until said survivor succumbs to their infection.

It’s game over for them!

How to Cure Blood Plague?

Thankfully, State of Decay 2 provides you with the necessary tools to cure the plague. If you build an Infirmary in your base, you can cure Blood Plague.

But to ensure your character is at full health and prepped for a trek into the wilds, you’ll need to craft a unique medication using five Plague Samples. You can obtain Plague Samples by killing Plague Zombies or destroying a Blood Plague Heart.

Now, these samples must be in your base, not on your person. The Infirmary pulls resources from your stockpile.

How to Avoid Infection

Of course, as they say, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” If you can avoid contracting the plague altogether, then you’re golden. But how?

The best way to avoid plague infection is to methodically eliminate Plague Zombies from afar. If you are comfortable using firearms or, even better, crossbows, then start shooting — aim for the head.

Alternatively, if you’re fine with damaging your vehicle, then run those damn Plague Zombies over!

If you absolutely must fight Plague Zombies in hand-to-hand combat, well, good luck. Ideally, you’ll want to sneak up on Plague Zombies, silently eliminate them, then move on to the next. Rinse and repeat.

If you want to improve base morale in State of Decay 2, avoid Blood Plague as if it were the…well, plague.
