How to Romance Piper

Fallout 4 Piper

Depending on your playstyle, Piper may wind up as one of your first companions in Fallout 4. She’s spunky, a little sarcastic, and sticks to her principles, which, as a companion, she expects you to adhere to quite a strict moral code, too.

As you progress with Piper, you’ll eventually receive the Gift of Gab perk, which offers bonus experience points for discovering locations and passing Persuasion checks.

Generally speaking, Piper likes it when you are generous, give items away, pick dungeon locks, and choose sarcastic dialogue options when talking to other NPCs.

Conversely, she hates when you steal, pickpocket, choose selfish or violent dialogue choices, pick owned locks, kill non-hostile NPCs, and consume humanoid flesh.

How to Romance Preston

Of the many companions in the game, none enter the picture quite as early on in your adventures as Preston, who is hiding in Concord with his buddies from Quincy. Once you complete a few Minutemen quests, Preston, who likes the cut of your jib, will become a companion.

Unlike Piper, Preston can hold his own in combat relatively well. Equipped with a laser musket, Preston, while semi-weak at first, can help you tackle enemy combatants in the Commonwealth.

If you want to romance Preston in Fallout 4, you need to boost his opinion of you by giving away items in miscellaneous quests, modifying firearms, and choosing generous, peaceful, or sarcastic dialogue choices.

Once you do acquire Preston as a friend, you’ll obtain the United We Stand perk, which provides a 20% bonus damage and 20% damage resistance when fighting three or more enemies at once.

If you genuinely want Preston to hate your guts, then eat human flesh, choose selfish or violent dialogue choices, murder non-combatants, take all the chems you can find until you’re hopelessly addicted, steal, pickpocket, and pick owned locks.

How to Romance Cait

Cait is a personal favorite. It’s the accent. It gets me everytime.

Anyway, if you want to romance this feisty fighter, prepare to delve into the depths of Boston, to the Combat Zone, where you will need to clear out a bunch of raiders who watch her fistfight for caps.

Cait loves booze, chems, and violence, and if you want to romance Cait in Fallout 4, then prepare to select selfish or violent dialogue choices, drink alcohol, pick locks, pick owned locks, and pickpocket NPCs.

In time, as friendship blossoms and love blooms, you’ll wind up with the Trigger Rush perk, after the Benign Intervention quest, which improves Action Point regeneration when below 25% health.

Alternatively, if you do not want Cait as a romance option, then choose mean, generous, or peaceful dialogue choices, eat humanoid flesh, and kill non-hostiles.

How to Romance Curie

Fallout 4 Curie

Do you have a soft spot for a French accent? If so, then Curie is the companion for you.

To acquire Curie as a companion, you must visit Vault 81 a second time, after your initial visit, to trigger the Hole in the Wall quest. When you first meet her, Curie is a female-voiced robot, not a humanoid.

Once you progress your relationship with Curie, you can tackle the Emergent Behavior side quest, which grants the Combat Medic perk. Combat Medic will, once per day, restore health automatically once it falls below 10%.

To turn Curie from regular wandering companion to romantic partner, choose nice, mean, or peaceful dialogue choices, give items away during miscellaneous quests, and heal Dogmeat.

To turn her away, choose selfish dialogue options, become addicted to any chems, kill non-hostiles, steal, or pickpocket NPCs.

How to Romance Danse

Paladin Danse

Whether you agree with the Brotherhood of Steel or not, you cannot argue against Paladin Danse. He is, hands down, one of the toughest, most authentic companions available in Fallout 4.

Thankfully, you can romance Danse. Once you join the Brotherhood of Steel, then prove your worth to the squad, Danse will offer to accompany you across the Commonwealth. If you stick with him long enough and raise his relationship status, you’ll acquire the Know Your Enemy perk, which grants 20% bonus damage against Feral Ghouls, Super Mutants, and Synths.

To eventually romance Danse, ensure you choose nice dialogue options, enter Power Armor, enter a Vertibird, modify armor pieces, and modify weapons.

To push Danse away, choose mean or violent dialogue options, use chems, eat humanoid flesh, kill non-hostile NPCs, steal, pickpocket, and pick owned locks.

How to Romance MacCready

Fallout 4 MacCready

Did you play Fallout 3? If so, do you remember Little Lamplight? It was a settlement comprised solely of children, no mungos allowed, and our very own MacCready once held the position of mayor. In Fallout 4, MacCready is a mercenary who previously worked with the Gunners but is now flying solo.

Once you stumble upon Goodneighbor, you’ll have a chance to recruit MacCready as a companion by visiting the Third Rail. You’ll need a few caps, though.

Once you bolster MacCready’s relationship status, you’ll receive the Killshot perk, which offers a significant bonus to headshots made in VATS.

To get to that point, use persuade to argue for more caps, steal, pick owned locks, and choose violent dialogue options.

If you don’t want to romance MacCready, and have some kind of personal vendetta against him, choose peaceful, mean, and nice dialogue options, become addicted to chems, give away items on miscellaneous quests, and kill non-hostile NPCs.

How to Romance Hancock

Fallout 4 Hancock

As the only ghoul you may romance, Hancock earns a special place amongst the community. He is tough, rough, loves violence, and has a penchant for chems. But even the rough exterior is not enough to hide his principles.

When you finally break through the tough outer shell, Hancock will reward you with the Isodoped perk, which proves a boost to critical generation speed by 20% when you have more than 250 RADS.

To win Hancock’s heart, choose generous, peaceful, and violent dialogue choices, give away items in miscellaneous quests, and use various chems.

To push him away, however, choose mean or selfish dialogue options, steal, kill non-hostiles NPCs, and walk around stark naked.

There you have it, folks. The various companions in Fallout 4 and how to romance said companions from the very beginning. Before you know it, you’ll have a man, woman, or robot by your side who idolizes you and will lay down their life.
