State of Decay 2: How to Improve Base Morale

Base morale in State of Decay 2 affects every aspect of your community’s survival. The lower the morale, the more likely your survivors will fight, leave, or steal resources. But high morale, that’s where your community will shine.

How do you improve base morale?

To improve morale:

  • Clear infestations across the map.
  • Construct morale-boosting facilities, like the Latrine and Lounge.
  • Do not let your supplies run low.
  • Claim morale-boosting outposts around the game world.
  • Recruit survivors with positive traits, like Caring and Encouraging.

Occasionally, you’ll notice specific requests coming from your community members to construct, say, a watchtower. If you build the tower, you lose the base morale debuff. It’s a win-win, as a watchtower helps defend your settlement.

What decreases base morale in State of Decay 2?

Quite a lot, as it were.

  • Running low on necessary supplies, like food and medicine.
  • Refusing to treat Blood Plague infections.
  • Duking it out with other enclaves.
  • Recruiting community members with bad traits, like Angsty.
  • Ignoring construction requests to build unique facilities.

How to Track Base Morale

When is the last time you looked in on your base morale?

You can do so by navigating to the ‘Base’ tab in your menu, then look to the left-hand side. You’ll notice a box with a ‘Morale’ meter that swings from -200 to +200. Obviously, you want the latter.

If you select the morale section, you’ll receive a full breakdown of every community member’s morale, plus any influences affecting their outlook at the time.
