True Grit Achievement

State of Decay 2: True Grit Achievement Guide

Do you fancy yourself the ultimate survivor? In State of Decay 2, you can earn an exclusive achievement for surviving for a total of 100 days on one of the more approachable difficulty levels. It’s not dealing with the zombies or the freaks or the Blood Plague, it’s lasting for such a long time. But to help you survive, I’ve got a True Grit achievement guide to help you out!

What is the True Grit Achievement?

True Grit tasks the player with surviving for 100 days in either Dread or Nightmare Zone.

If you’ve ever played Dread or Nightmare Zone, you know it’s not a cakewalk. It is, however, easier than completing, say, Lethal Zone for 100 days, though.

True Grit Achievement Guide

Without further ado, let’s dive straight into our True Grit achievement guide so that you can survive the full 100 days without much effort.

State of Decay 2 Multiplayer

Choosing a Legacy Boon

To survive the fill 100 days, you’ll want to make use of Legacy Boons. In this case, selecting the Trader and Builder make the most sense, to ensure you have power and water to your base and enough influence to buy supplies, plus the Trade Depot in the late-game.

Choosing a Map

In what I consider to be one of the easiest maps in the game, Meagher Valley also proves useful for the True Grit Achievement.

Overall, Meagher offers some of the most viable long-term bases in the game, including Whitney Field and Squelones Brewing Company.

The Brewing Company is especially useful as you can brew alcohol and sell it for high amounts of influence to other communities. Eventually, you’ll need to trade for most resources and other supplies, all of which require influence.

Selecting Outposts

If you chose the Builder Boon, you won’t require any power supply outposts, and you likely won’t require a fuel outpost either.

Instead, focus on your other resources. With a fully upgraded base, you can have six outposts in total. You can use any combination that works best for you, but two ammo outposts, two materials outposts, and two medicine outposts prove an effective strategy. That is, so long you have adequate food production at home.

Ally With Enclaves

Seriously, the more friends you have, the better. You’ll meet many enclaves across your 100 days in State of Decay 2, and it’s typically best to get each one to “Allied” status for their benefits and trade boosts.

Benefits? Yes, allied enclaves can provide you with additional food supplies, ammunition, airdrops, spare beds, bonuses to your stats, additional storage, reduced zombie threat at home, and so much more. It’s more than useful to make a few buddies in the apocalypse.

Pace Yourself

When the average game of State of Decay 2 lasts less than two weeks of in-game time, can you imagine making it to Day 100 without a little exhaustion?

With such a monumental task, it’s easy to save, quit, and come back at a later time.

To make the most of the challenge, give yourself tasks. Set goals. If you want to clear out all of the Plague Hearts in the first in-game week, then, by all means, it’s your game. But try to spread major tasks out to ensure you have something to work towards.

And hey, if you get bored of the map, you could always move to another and start from the beginning!

How to Cheese True Grit

Do you want to cheese the True Grit achievement without putting in the work? Hey, I don’t blame you!

If you spawn with three random survivors in Meagher Valley, head on past the starter base to the cell tower and climb on up. Do not settle down in the base.

You’ll want to stand on top of the cell tower and idle away for the full 100 days. But it’s important to turn on matchmaking, that way you won’t be kicked and the game won’t pause.

The downside is, someone can still join your game and settle the base, ruining the whole plan, though.
