What Happened to Days Gone 2?

When Days Gone was released on Steam, fans were ecstatic. It was an exceptional port, coming from long-term exclusivity on PlayStation consoles, and it quickly found a cult following on PC.

At the time of this writing, the game sits at ‘Very Positive’ on Steam with nearly 42,000 total reviews. It routinely goes on sale for under $20, and most wind up putting in at least 70 hours in a single playthrough.

It’s a huge win. And yet, PlayStation canned the proposed sequel from developer Bend Studio. Why?

Unfortunately, upon its initial release on PlayStation consoles, Days Gone performed poorly—functionally and in the eyes of the critics. Many panned the game as bland, boring, and problematic due to the main character, Deacon St. John, played by actor Sam Witwer, who was everything wrong with the modern male hero in their eyes.

According to the game’s director, John Garvin, “woke reviewers” are why no sequel will ever happen in this lifetime.

Is Days Gone Good?

Absolutely! At least, it is, in my humble opinion. Very few single-player experiences have captured my attention for months, like Days Gone and Red Dead Redemption 2. Yes, I know that’s a bold statement to put both games in a single sentence.
