The world of State of Decay 2 is vicious, violent, and sometimes lonely. To survive the open-world zombie survival game, you need to construct outposts away from home. But there are many outpost types in State of Decay 2, and some are better than others. Which do you focus your efforts on and why?

What Are Outposts in State of Decay 2?

When you construct an outpost outside of your base, you are essentially creating a safe zone with a circular radius of 65m in any direction around said outpost. As a safe zone, zombies cannot spawn within this immediate area.

Furthermore, you’ll note a locker to deposit and withdraw items, the ability to switch characters, and a steady drip of a single material: Food, Medicine, Ammunition, Oil, Water, or Construction Materials, for example.

In total, there are 12 outpost types in State of Decay 2.

Simple Outposts

A simple outpost is the most basic outpost type in State of Decay 2. It offers a sanctuary from the undead, with a locker, switchable characters, and safe zone.

Espresso Outposts

An espresso outpost helps boost morale and allows crafting of fatigue-reducing consumables.

This outpost provides +3 Morale for all survivors in your community, plus unlocks the Shots of Espresso food item.

Cost: 275 Influence (138 in Green Zone)

Food Outposts

Arguably the most common type of outpost most players actively seek out, food outposts provide you with a small amount of food each day. The amount you receive solely depends on your difficulty level.

  • Standard/Dread – 1 Food Per Day
  • Green/Nightmare – 1.5 Food Per Day
  • Lethal Zone – 2 Food Per Day

Meds Outposts

It’s the zombie apocalypse. You always require medicine. The meds outpost offers 1 Meds Per Day. In the late-game, your colony will use up medicine regularly.

To construct anything within your main base, you need a steady stream of materials. The same goes for upkeep. A materials outpost provides 1 Materials Per Day.

Fuel Outposts

A fuel outpost does as the name would suggest, provides you with 1 Fuel Per Day.

Beds Outposts

You’ll find keeping your survivors happy, healthy, and comfortable in a warm bed to be quite the challenge. A beds outpost provides +2 Beds for your community.

Cost: 400 Influence (200 in Green Zone)

Signal Booster Outposts

Do you find yourself routinely waiting on your radio command cooldown bar? A signal booster outpost will reduce the cooldown by 20%.

Artillery Outposts

An artillery outpost unlocks the Artillery Strike Radio Command, which allows you to mark a single visible location on your map to request an artillery barrage posthaste.

Cost: 500 Influence (250 in Green Zone)

Water Outposts

You’ll find your survivors gripe about clean water daily, so find yourself a water outpost for +1 Morale to provide fresh water to all facilities at your home base.

Cost: 1000 Influence (500 in Green Zone) + 1 Fuel Per Day

Power Outposts

Many facilities at home base require a steady stream of power to operate. A power outpost does that and offers +5 Morale to everyone.

Cost: 2000 Influence (1000 in Green Zone) + 2 Fuel Per Day
