Every Instrument in Sea of Thieves
You have a selection of instruments in Sea of Thieves to play, including:
- Concertina
- Hurdy-Gurdy
- Drum
- Banjo
Like most other items in the game, there are variations of each instrument available to purchase for gold at the vendors, such as at:
- Equipment Shops
- Black Market
- Pirate Emporium
- Athena’s Fortune Hideout
Despite paying more for a variant, they’re typically just cosmetic alterations to the base instruments in Sea of Thieves. Everyone has access to the four starting instruments; you can play them at any time.

How to Play Instruments in Sea of Thieves
To play instruments in Sea of Thieves, access the entire selection by opening the Item Radial Wheel, then switch to Equipment. To access the wheel, hold down ‘Q‘ on the keyboard or ‘Left Bumper‘ on a controller, then navigate using your mouse or D-pad to access specific items.
With an instrument equipped, hold down “R” on the keyboard or “B” on a controller to select a Shanty.
Tip: Be wary of using the equipment wheel in combat, as it’s easy to equip a Concertina instead of a Cutlass accidentally. I know, I’ve been there. I lost an entire chest because I whipped out an instrument instead of my weapon, thereby losing the fight.
