What Are Atoms?

First and foremost, let’s define Atoms. Like most other live-service video games, Fallout 76 includes a metric ton of microtransactions, none of which players can purchase using in-game caps. To buy skins, buildable objects, furniture, and emotes, for instance, players require Atoms.

You can purchase Atoms in-game, via the store, or through Steam directly on the Fallout 76 store page. They currently cost:

  • 500 Atoms – $4.99
  • 1000 (+100 Bonus) Atoms – $9.99
  • 2000 (+400 Bonus) Atoms – $19.99
  • 4000 (+1000 Bonus) Atoms – $39.99

Alternatively, players can subscribe to Fallout 1st to receive a number of unique benefits, including:

  • Private Worlds
  • Survival Tent
  • Scrapbox
  • Ranger Armor
  • 1650 Atoms Per Month

If you’re a hardcore fan of Fallout 76, as in someone who plays daily, then yes, Fallout 1st is worth the money for the unlimited Scrapbox. The Atoms are the icing on the cake, though.

But whipping out a credit card is not the only solution for when you need Atoms!

That’s right; you can earn Atoms in Fallout 76 through the S.C.O.R.E. seasonal board, or by playing the game and completing various challenges, like playing for 7600 hours. These “Lifetime Challenges” will net you many thousands of Atoms over the lifespan of a single character, with focuses on Character, Combat, Social, Survival, and World challenges.

Lifetime Challenges are essentially daily or weekly challenges, though many have no time limit but are specific to your account, not the character, and award up to 100 Atoms upon completion.

Alternatively, there is the Scoreboard. The downside here, however, is that players will need to grind extensively, completing daily and weekly challenges to obtain S.C.O.R.E. points to rank up through the season. In total, one may earn up to 500 Atoms for free through this method.
