One of the earliest missions in State of Decay 2 is to promote a member of your community to a leadership role. For that, your survivor must reach Hero. Before we dive further, how do you promote leaders in State of Decay 2?
Promote Leaders in State of Decay 2
As previously mentioned, to promote a leader in State of Decay 2, you need to reach ‘Hero’ status.
How? By completing quests and earning influence through zombie kills and returning loot to your home base.
Over time, your standing will increase through the following ranks:
- Recruit
- Citizen
- Hero
- Leader
Most of your community will remain at citizen rank for extended periods. We all have our favorite survivors to play, after all.
Tip: Try to get everyone to Hero to unlock unique bonuses for the entire community!
Types of Leaders
In total, there are four types of leaders in State of Decay 2 with unique boons for each.
Builder
The Builder focuses its efforts on crafting the ideal base for long-term survival. Most of their bonuses and constructions focus on quality of life improvements, like water and electricity.
- Leader Project — Sniper Tower (Free Sniper Fire Cover)
- Large Facility — Luxury Barracks 2 (5 Beds, +Morale)
- Small Facility — Generator 3 (1/2 Fuel, No Noise Pollution)
Trader
The Trader will focus on connecting with other enclaves around the map to create a functional, efficient, and lucrative society of survivors through trade and business.
- Leader Project — Trade Deport (Summons Any Type of Trader)
- Large Facility — Farm 3 (+4 Food/Day)
- Small Facility — Still 2 (Craft Luxury Items)
Sheriff
If you fancy yourself a veritable Rick Grimes of the post-apocalypse, the Sheriff leader type strives for law and order at the end of the world by helping survivors in need.
- Leader Project — Field Hospital (Heal All Infections and Injuries)
- Large Facility — Lounge 3 (Boost All XP Rates)
- Small Facility — Shooting Range 2 (Train Shooting or Wits)
Warlord
Does conquest sound more like your style? The Warlord concentrates on total domination across the land through violence and, oftentimes, cruelty.
- Leader Project — Armory (Craft Any Ammo)
- Large Facility — Spartan Barracks 2 (8 Beds, -Morale)
- Small Facility — Fighting Gym 2 (Train Fighting or Cardio)
Which Leader Type to Choose in State of Decay 2
For your first game, you’ll likely be curious to know which leadership type to select for your community, right?
Personally, I firmly believe the Trader and Builder are the most vital leaders in State of Decay 2.
Why?
Because of their unique boons. Upon completing a Legacy with the Builder, you’ll unlock unlimited water and electricity from the get-go for your next community, if you select that boon upon starting a new game.
For the Trader, you start with a large supply of influence from the very beginning and the Boon Trader visits your base to give you a headstart upon its founding.
