Games Like Back 4 Blood to Play While You Wait

Back 4 Blood, the spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead, developed by Turtle Rock Studios, is set to release everywhere on June 22, 2021. Like you, we want to know about any and all games like Back 4 Blood to ensure the next few months fly by quicker than the infected swarming a hobbled survivor!

How many games like Back 4 Blood truly exist? As it were, quite a few!

Left 4 Dead

Perhaps the most obvious selection, Left 4 Dead, developed by Valve, released in November 2008. I don’t know about you but I was still in high school, and the moment I walked into my bedroom after a long day, Left 4 Dead helped me unwind.

The core gameplay loop is most similar to what we’ll experience in Back 4 Blood. You choose one of four unique characters, equip yourself with weapons (firearms, melee, and throwables) and move from point A to point B while shooting hordes of undead.

In total, Valve offered us 20 maps, 10 weapons, matchmaking, Versus Mode, single-player, cooperative gameplay, and immense replayability.

Left 4 Dead 2

Like its predecessor before it, Left 4 Dead 2 reintroduced the same core gameplay loop of wading through hordes of infected in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. This time around, players were treated to new survivors, new locations, new enemy types, new weapons, and more of everything overall.

But wait, this isn’t yet another reskin of Left 4 Dead. No, it adds, as I said, a metric ton of new content. The most significant change to the formula is the setting. This time around, survivors delve into the South, through Savannah, GA, and New Orleans, LA, and the like.

Alongside the new locations, AI Director 2.0 makes its debut. What is AI Director 2.0? Good question. Valve developed its AI Director to ensure a unique experience every level. The Director affects enemy population, effects, music, weather, and map layout based on your difficulty level and performance.

World War Z

Don’t confuse the quality of the game with the quality of the movie. Where the movie was mediocre, World War Z the game is an entertaining romp through the end of times, complete with massive hordes of zombies at every turn.

Like the movie, inconceivable hordes of undead barreling toward your position are commonplace in each level. In fact, such a horde is the climax to most missions, which all require the player and up to three teammates (AI or human) to escape the apocalypse on the last ride out of town.

Furthermore, with customizable and upgradeable weapons, perks, and unique characters to choose from, plus the broad range of unique locales, World War Z is a lot of fun and the perfect way to kill time with your buddies.

Survive the Zombie Hordes, Gamers!

Well, there you have it. A few choice options to enjoy while you wait. There are quite a few games like Back 4 Blood, from simple wave-based zombie shooters to story-based post-apocalyptic fare.
