Fallout 76: How to Get Wood

Despite the various survival mechanics in Fallout 76, like the need to craft using essential resources and consume food and water, it does not allow us to smack a tree to acquire wood. You must get wood in Fallout 76 using other methods, like hitting a single button on a controller in the right spot. Thrilling, I know! Here is where to get wood in the game!

Where to Get Wood in Fallout 76

You can get wood in Fallout 76 from various locations, the most common being the workshops scattered around Appalachia. One of my favorites is Dolly Sods Campground, which is usually bogged down with enemies, like a Yao Guai, but offers a lot of atmosphere and plenty of wood to farm.

Otherwise, you can find wood here:

  • Dabney Homestead (Workshop)
  • Dolly Sods Campground (Workshop)
  • Gorge Junkyard (Workshop)
  • Lakeside Cabins (Workshop)
  • Thunder Mountain Power Plant Yard (Workshop)
  • Prickett’s Fort
  • Superior Sunset Farm
  • Freyja’s Haus Restaurant
  • Honey Haus
  • Middle Mountain Cabins
  • Gilman Lumber Mill

Alternatively, suppose you only require a small bunch of wood scraps. In that case, you can scrap wooden junk items at the Tinker’s Workbench, like acoustic guitars and picture frames, or interact with fallen trees in the woods around Appalachia. A fallen tree will provide you with a good chunk of wood without much effort.

Best Wood Farming Strategies in Fallout 76

While you can spend countless hours roaming the map in search of wood scraps, which is a viable strategy in the early game, I do not recommend this plan for the long term. You’ll wind up with a small handful of scraps, which isn’t helpful to late-game crafting whatsoever.

Instead, when it comes to competent wood farming strategies in Fallout 76, I recommend taking control of a workshop, like the aforementioned Dolly Sods Campground, and constructing a Wood Extractor. It will passively collect wood from the wood pile, farming many resources simultaneously.

What is Wood Used for in Fallout 76?

As for what you can use wood for, plenty of crafting and construction plans require wood. You can craft wooden armor, an acceptable early-game defensive measure, or construct buildings, like the watchtower, in your C.A.M.P.

Wood is a fantastic early and mid-game resource, but you require high-tier resources for the late game. That is, unless you fancy yourself a master C.A.M.P. constructor, and then you’ll want plenty of wood readily available.
