How to Avoid Killing Hakon

Yes, it is entirely possible to finish Dying Light 2 without killing Hakon. To accomplish this, simply back down from the fight.

Furthermore, you cannot leave Hakon to die in Old Villedor; otherwise, you’ll be forced into a fight to the death later in the story. Instead, help him escape and track down the sniper.

Should You Help Hakon Or Leave Him?

Help Hakon Or Leave Him to Die

One of the most significant gameplay choices in Dying Light 2 (Steam) revolves around Hakon, one of the first major characters we meet in the story. We need to determine whether to help Hakon or leave him to die. And yes, this decision does impact the story in multiple ways.

The first way in which the story changes is immediate:

  • If you choose to help Hakon, a short quest will appear. “Snipers Alley” requires tracking down the sniper that shot at Hakon.
  • If you choose to leave Hakon to die, you skip the short quest and proceed to “Let’s Waltz,” which is the next main story mission.

But later down the line, another major gameplay change occurs.

  • If you helped Hakon, you’re provided with a path that revolves around talking Hakon down from combat, but Lawan arrives ready for the kill. Instead, you can talk her out of striking down Hakon, who will then flee until the epilogue.
  • If you decided to leave Hakon to die, however, he’ll reappear, and you’ll need to fight to the death. Lawan will arrive, see that you took down Hakon yourself, and then ask for some time away.

If you want to finish the game with the best possible ending, then leaving Hakon alive is highly recommended, but it’s up to you!
