New World: Beginner Tips to Keep You on Your Toes

Despite complaints regarding a lack of content, New World comes equipped with plenty of quests, crafting, gathering, and a few dungeons to master—content that some players spend hundreds of hours working through. To the newcomer, especially one brand-new to the MMORPG, New World can sometimes feel overwhelming. That’s why we have ten New World tips and tricks to keep you on your toes and making the most of your experience!

New World Tips and Tricks

Whether you’re brand-new to the world of Aeternum, or a returning player looking to max level after the most recent content updates, we have a few top New World tips and tricks for you!

Prioritize Main Quests

If leveling a character is priority number one for you, then focus on completing the main quests. They provide the best experience point gain and provide better rewards overall. You’ll acquire new armor pieces, weapons, and many crafting materials.

Of course, there aren’t quite enough main quests to max level a character. You’ll need to tackle a few side and faction quests at times, too.

Craft Your Gear

Like any good MMORPG, New World does focus heavily on questing content. However, consider crafting when questing grows tiresome or fails to level you fast enough.

New World has one of the best crafting and gathering systems in an MMO today. It would be a shame to ignore the entire system.

You can craft high-end gear better than what you loot often; in doing so, you’ll also level your crafting skills and character.

Cook What You Kill, Eat What You Cook

As part of the extensive crafting system, players can hunt and skin various animals, like turkeys, rabbits, and wolves. You may then cook the meat you receive from each kill to craft various meals and dishes.

These consumables do more than heal you, though. Some types of food in New World provide buffs, like experience gains and greater critical hit chance.

Partake in Town Project Board Jobs

Amazon wanted to foster a sense of community by allowing guilds to take over an entire town and upgrade it over time via in-game currency and labor provided by players. It rarely works out, though.

But still, it’s fun and often rewarding to partake in town project board jobs. These quests require hunters, cooks, and carpenters, for instance, to complete various crafting and farming jobs. In doing so, you help a fledgling town upgrade its resources and available crafting tables.

In the long run, it helps you craft better gear and gain access to much-needed resources when taking a break from questing.

Focus on Weapon Experience

Unlike other MMORPGs, New World features an extensive weapon skill system instead of traditional character classes. You’ll earn skill points and strengthen your abilities in a single weapon type by using that weapon in combat.

It’s crucial that you spend time leveling your desired weapon. The more skills you have, the higher your damage output overall. Plus, some skills help reduce cooldowns and provide damage or crit buffs in combat.

Complete Faction Missions

Each day, the first three faction missions you complete are subject to a bonus. By completing these quests, of which you can choose either PvE or PvP, you’ll receive a significant experience bonus, plus faction credit.

You may use faction credit to purchase rewards, including weapons and armor. The higher your rank in the faction, the better the available gear to purchase.

Skip the Cheap Home

New World features an extensive housing system that allows for a ton of personalization, thanks to various furniture pieces and decorations.

Around level 15, you’ll receive a quest to purchase your first home. Don’t! You’ll receive an offer to purchase the first starter home, which is also one of the cheapest in the game. It’s a waste of money, in my humble opinion.

Instead, wait. You’ll receive a 50% discount on buying your first home, including the game’s most prominent, most expensive properties. Save that discount and opt for the larger one instead, allowing you to decorate and place more items, a bigger storage chest, and fast travel more often.

Don’t Aggro Every Enemy

In other MMOs, you’re likely a high-level god character capable of tackling entire mobs solo, right? Now so in New World, though.

The combat is a little more unforgiving. You must time dodge rolls and blocks to parry attacks and strike hard. Otherwise, you risk significant damage to your character.

You’ll find yourself quickly overwhelmed if you aggro an entire group of enemies. Instead, try to kite enemies or lure them away one at a time.

Enjoy Your Time

When it comes to the grind found in an MMORPG, players often forget to enjoy the journey. They focus so hard on min-maxing and character builds that they lose sight of the game itself. A video game is designed with fun in mind.

If you’re the type of player who enjoys the mix-max gameplay, go right ahead. No one is stopping you. But if you’re not, don’t feel pressured to play that way.

Take New World at your own pace, and have fun along the way!
