How to Kill Zombies in State of Decay 2

State of Decay 2: How to Kill Zombies Fast

In a game centered around killing zombies and surviving the apocalypse, you’d think bringing about the ultimate demise of the undead would be straightforward, right? Sometimes, yes, and sometimes, no. You see, the art of how to kill zombies in State of Decay 2 becomes more complex due to the sheer number of choices you have: melee weapons, firearms, finishing moves, vehicles, etc. It’s a lot of choice in a sandbox world!

Please note: This guide is just for fun. However you like to play State of Decay 2 is perfectly acceptable, and there’s no wrong way to enjoy the game or slay zombies!

Melee Weapons

In the early game of State of Decay 2, chances are high your melee weapons are weak. You’ll start with baseball bats, which provide welcome bashing power, and cleavers that, while effective in a pinch, prove weak overall against multiple zombies. You need an upgrade!

While certainly rare, weapons like the CLEO and Echo series provide exceptional stopping power, dismemberment, and durability that can carry you through an entire colony run.

Alternatively, the Tactihawk, Ultralight Axe, and Mower Blade Sword prove themselves as efficient melee weapons.

At the end of the day, however, when it comes to melee weapons in State of Decay 2, the choice is yours to make. All offer unique benefits and uses!

Ranged Weapons

Now, here is where selecting a zombie-killing weapon becomes a more tactical choice. You have a lot of ranged weapon options, from shotguns to assault rifles to handguns.

But, depending on your difficulty setting, you may not wish to use a loud shotgun. The sound of a single shot will call all the zombies to the feeding trough.

Instead, opt for a small-caliber weapon, like a .22, which offers excellent stopping power without as much noise. Even better is .22 is easily found throughout the world, and if you aim carefully, you can pop the head on a zombie in a single shot.

When selecting a small-caliber weapon as a primary, a few notable choices include:

  • Exterminator’s 10/22
  • Prepper’s 10/22
  • SP101 Devilette .22
  • Sighted Mk3

While the Devilette is a revolver and, as such, offers fewer rounds per reload, it provides a certain cool factor when popping zombie heads!

Vehicles

Lastly, we have vehicles in State of Decay 2. Like most melee weapons, there are numerous fantastic options to run down zombies, but not every car in the game is the ideal weapon.

You want something with high durability and stopping power, like the Legendre or Rhames V.

Ideally, you’ll have Apocalypse Vehicles before long. For those, when it comes to killing zombies in State of Decay 2, opt for:

  • Big Boss
  • Impaler
  • Smashwagon
  • Vandito
  • Zedbuster

There are also unique vehicles with built-in defenses, like Mad Norma.
