Stardew Valley: Every Random Event in Pelican Bay

Unlike our guide on all of the Year 1 Events featured in Stardew Valley, this compilation of random events is… well, random. As you sleep, random farm events may occur overnight. You’ll wake up in the morning with their aftermath, or you’ll enjoy a small cutscene during the night. Either way, you’re just a spectator.

For the sake of clarity, we’ve omitted any “random” event tied to an annual event. For example, an earthquake will occur on Summer 3 which unlocks the railroad and spa area. This event is completely planned and occurs on every playthrough.

Random Events in Stardew Valley include crop fairies to boost production!

Random Farm Events

  • Crop Fairy — In every season except for winter, you have a 1% chance for a Crop Fairy to visit your farm. If it’s not raining that day, the fairy selects one of 100 random terrain features. The fairy will fully grow all crops within a 5×5 area. If it is raining or no crops are found, nothing happens.
  • The Witch — You have a 1% chance of a witch flying over a coop or slime hutch on your farm. The catch is, the selected building must have fewer than 50 placed objects, which will incur an 80% chance of a single upgrade by the witch.
  • Meteorite — You have a 1% chance of a meteorite spawning overnight. The meteor selects a random 3×3 area with no water, placed objects, buildings, resource clumps, or farm animals. The event incurs a unique sound effect and, the next day, you’ll wake up with a glowing purple meteorite on your farmland. With a Gold Pickaxe or better, you’ll receive 6 Iridium Ore, 6 Stone, and 2 Geodes.
  • Strange Capsule — After one year has passed, you’ll have a 1% chance of a strange capsule appearing. You’ll only receive the capsule if there are 50 random tiles on your farm, completely clear, with room for item placement. A unique UFO sound effect occurs, then the capsule appears. After three in-game days, the capsule turns into a broken Empty Capsule.
  • Stone Owl — Once again, there is a 1% chance of a stone owl event occurring on your farm. Like the Strange Capsule, the Stone Owl requires 50 random tiles that are both clear and allow item placement.
Random Events in Stardew Valley often include the birth of a child or animal.

Random Personal Events

  • Spouse Asks for a Child — After at least 7 days of marriage, there is a 5% chance your spouse will ask for a child. For this event to trigger, you need to sleep at home, have 10 hearts with your spouse, the nursery upgrade, no other children or one toddler, and are not having a child at the moment.
  • Child is Born or Delivered — After 14 days from the end of the ‘Spouse Asks for a Child’ event, a child is born or delivered. The baby will appear in the farmhouse crib.
  • Farm Animal Birth — There’s a 50% chance of a farm animal birth occurring if an upgraded Barn or Coop is not yet full. You’ll receive a notification asking you to name the new animal to your flock.
  • Wild Animal Attack — The wild animal attack event occurs at random when one barn or coop is left open overnight, with animals freely wandering the farm. Thankfully, the attack has a 50% chance of doing nothing whatsoever. If you’re “unlucky,” the event triggers a unique dog sound and one animal left outdoors disappears forever. All remaining animals will display a “something bad happened last night” message.

Despite its small install size and confined game world, Stardew Valley is a massive and complex beast of an indie farming game. These random events or just the tip of the iceberg.
